Industry Veterans Launch MachineControlOnline.com


One-stop Platform for Positioning Manufacturers, OEMs and Users Announced at World of Concrete.

Las Vegas, NV & Frederick, MD – February 4th, 2009 – With Randy Noland (left) as Editor, Spatial Media LLC is pleased to announce the launch of MachineControlOnline.com to promote the advancement of positioning and machine control technology for the construction and mining industries.

MachineControlOnline.com will offer manufacturers, OEMs and customers a one-stop platform for all things positioning–technology, trends, productivity gains, and more.


“Machine Control automation offers the most significant boost in accuracy and productivity since the invention of hydraulics,” says Randy Noland, editor and cofounder. “The potential market is huge and the technology is just now being embraced at approximately 10 percent penetration.”

Allen Cheves, president and co-founder of Spatial Media LLC and publisher of The American Surveyor magazine, adds “Having witnessed a sea change in the land surveying industry, brought about by advanced measurement and positioning technology, this is a logical next-step for us. Given the fact that key surveying equipment manufacturers are driving machine control developments, we feel inclined to support their growth.”

Paul F. Hahn, formerly of Spectra Precision and most recently Trimble Navigation, will bring over three decades of industry expertise as Associate Editor. The team will also benefit from the involvement of Marc Cheves, LS, editor of sister publications The American Surveyor and www.Amerisurv.com. Other contributors as of launch time include Marco Cecala, Jay Jones, PLS and Chad Cooper (BSCE).

Jones
Paul F. Hahn
Paul F. Hahn has more than 30 years of experience in the positioning industry. He has worked as a land surveyor, construction surveyor, in sales, marketing and product development for surveying and construction instrument manufacturers. Paul is a contributor to Automated Machine Guidance (AMG) developments.
For the last 20 years, he has been a pundit of the Return on Investment analysis approach for adopting productivity-enhancing technologies. Paul will contribute "The Bottom Line" to Machine Control Online, a column focused on that all-important facet of any business.

Cecala
Marco Cecala
As GPS started to be used in surveying, Marco was building data for robotic total stations for heavy highway and airport grading. He was on the leading edge of the use of GPS for construction staking and machine control.
Marco is versed in the use of all major CAD platforms, and conducted training classes in data preparation in the past. Over the years, he has focused on the production and use of digital data for layout, machine control, bidding, as builts, and site network integration. His years of experience and insight will allow readers to get real answers to everyday situations they face in their businesses.

Jones
Jay Jones, PLS
Jay has been involved with surveying and construction projects since 1993, with GPS since 1996, and machine control since 2002. He utilizes GPS and machine control to perform large civil and heavy highway construction projects across the United States. He was responsible for helping to implement GPS and machine control for the company and training employees on how to use and utilize its benefits. He currently works with multiple construction companies performing data preparation services, training, and also consults with companies looking to learn about machine control and utilize its benefits to their advantage.

Cooper
Chad Cooper (BSCE)
Competing on both the State and National level with AutoCADD, he learned the finer points of site design using CADD programs, field survey and staking, and working closely with clients to ensure that their needs were met through civil design.
Chad has been working on data prep projects with TOPS with projects ranging from small commercial sites to multi million projects for the Army Corps of Engineers. His combination of experience from field survey, civil design and education allows him to not only find errors in design quickly, but also correct them.

Adams
Nigel Adams
A Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK. Originally having a background within Aerospace and Defense projects including work on underwater weapons technologies, he has been responsible for the R&D, design and project management of weighing and machine guidance products and sensors. He is now focusing on bringing his 21 years experience wiithin the construction industry to the latest machine guidance technologies, concentrating on the end user applications and openly endorses the OPA philosophy.
