The first Caterpillar® 836H landfill compactor reaches Scandinavia Print E-mail
Written by Caterpillar
Wednesday, 26 August 2009

Since mid-April this year, Ämmässuo, the biggest landfill site in the Nordic countries, located in Espoo, Finland, just outside Helsinki, has been operating with a state-of-the-art 836H Caterpillar landfill compactor as part of its fleet. The machine is the first of its kind in the Scandinavian market.

The CEO Enska Mäntylä from Mäntylä Yhtiöt, the owner of the machine and the contractor of Ämmässuo, explains the company made a careful choice with the machine selection: “We have several Caterpillar machines in our fleet so we are familiar with the quality of the manufacturer as well as the Finnish Cat dealer Wihuri Oy Witraktor. Above all, we buy reliability. Also, real expertise and solid experience of different kinds of compaction methods, like Caterpillar has, will be of growing importance to meet the requirements of future’s new waste types.”

The site of Ämmässuo, operational since 1987, receives waste from more than a million inhabitants and fifty thousand companies in the Helsinki area – conditions, which do require the best equipment. The Caterpillar 836H landfill compactor, exclusively designed and purpose-built for tough landfill applications such as Ämmässuo, incorporates several features to improve performance, ease of operation and serviceability. Most importantly, the Caterpillar waste specialist Jérôme Perard mentions that, “the key of this machine is the power train, which delivers dependable, reliable performance through the Cat C18 engine with ACERT Technology. This combined with the exclusive plus-shaped tip design on the wheels truly gives superior compaction densities, excellent traction and side hill stability”.

He adds, “in addition, thanks to the advanced cooling system technologies there is no need for high ambient or extreme service cooling packages. The automatic blade positioning and several blade options help to get the best performance and in addition, the machine features high-efficiency hydraulics, durable structures and a comfortable work environment”.

Mäntylä Yhtiöt, founded in the 1950’s, employing more than 70 operators and possessing a fleet of more than 100 machines, has extended its operations also beyond the Finnish borders including locations in Russia and Europe, particularly in the Baltic countries. “The internationalization of our company requires international equipment and the best technical support both in Finland and abroad. This is why Caterpillar and its dealer network is a good choice“, Enska Mäntylä adds.
