Velodyne Business Development Manager to Speak at Upcoming SPAR Europe Conference
- Written by Veolodyne

Mike Dunbar will discuss collecting data using a compact LiDAR sensor for 3D and Mapping Applications
Dunbar’s presentation, “Compact LiDAR Sensor for Mobile Mapping and 3D Data Collection,” will demonstrate how a high resolution sensor can develop an accurate, dense point cloud for 3D map development as well as obstacle detection or landmark navigation on autonomous vehicles. The discussion will also describe how the sensor, using 32 lasers, is well suited to high-density data collection for a variety of ground and maritime vehicles in day or night conditions, at full vehicle speeds, thereby dramatically reducing the time needed for terrain coverage.
Dunbar has over 20 years experience in the sensor technology field. His extensive background includes bringing new technologies to market, establishing sales channels around the world and helping customers integrate LiDAR technology into autonomous vehicles and mobile mapping applications. He is the author of numerous articles in trade publications and a frequent presenter at industry conferences in the area of sensor applications. Dunbar is a graduate of the College of Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
SPAR Europe is the first European-based conference from Spar Point Group on 3D imaging for engineering, construction, manufacturing and security. The conference will focus on end-to-end 3D technologies using new tools and workflows to capture, process and deliver 3D information. It will be held in conjunction with Plant-Tech 2010, a well-established European event for plant engineering, design and information management for the oil and gas industry.
