intro
Welcome to the January 2010 mid-month edition of our eNewsletter.
I hope things are moving well for you out of the New Year's gate. I have already been on the road to Chicago, Dallas and Cincinnati, and to kick off February, will be attending World of Concrete Feb 2-6th in Las Vegas. I hope to see you there!
Because our exclusive articles and spotlight videos come out monthly, this issue again presents the 6 new articles and two new videos from our team of industry veterans. There's lots to learn from our experts, so if you didn't have time to check 'em out before, I hope you'll scroll down and do so at this time.
What's new in this newsletter is the News! A lot is happening in the industry, so please feel free to scroll down and check that out. I also have a new blog entry about industry nomenclature which is below the News.
Based on our poll in the last newsletter, we know you're enjoying the newsletter and see it as being full of must-have information. Please stay tuned, tell your colleagues about MCo, and because we update the website daily, visit us often.
Here’s to a prosperous 2010!
Best regards,
Randy Noland

Paul HahnThe Bottom Line by Paul Hahn: Layout Tools - Even with 3D machine control systems on site, there still remains a need for construction layout. If you employ machine control, the number of stakes and check shots will definitely be decreased but some layout will still be needed. So what are the options and what capabilities are available with today’s modern layout systems? ...

Marco CecalaIt's All About the Data by Marco Cecala: Software Review: Carlson Construction 2010  - AutoCAD or IntelliCAD? I have had the chance to work with IntelliCAD (ICAD) some. It used to be buggy, but has been stable with recent releases. I usually run Carlson programs in AutoCAD for 2 reasons. I have become familiar with it, and research material is more readily available. If you have no ...

Jay JonesMachine Control & the Land Surveyor by Jay Jones: The Liability Issue - One of the most common questions I am asked at seminars is about the issue of liability for land surveyors that are involved in machine control set up and 3D model preparation. Many land surveyors are very concerned about the potential liability issues that could arise from mistakes on a site calibration or localization, or ...

=Chad CooperData Prep: Tips, Tricks & Techniques by Chad Cooper: How Do You Eat a Highway? One Piece at a Time  - Heavy highway. It is the only type of project I have ever heard of someone refusing to build data for. It is by far the most common type of project that we are called upon to rebuild after someone failed in their attempt to build it. And it still makes my stomach hurt when I hear ...

=Nigel AdamsMachine Guidance Systems by Nigel Adams: 2D and 3D Excavation Simplified For the newcomer, machine guidance can be a tricky business to understand, and the number of solution providers and system types can cause much confusion.
