Noland
Welcome to the second May 2011 edition of our eNewsletter.
I am happy to report that Waste Expo in Dallas Texas last week was a success. Healthy show attendance, and speaking with colleagues and clients offers an valuable metric as to how business is progressing. T. Boone Pickens, founder of Mesa Petroleum, BP Capital, and Clean Energy Fuels Corp, was the keynote speaker. Mr. Pickens' speech was titled Solving Our Costly and Dangerous Dependence on OPEC Oil. Here is a link to one of Pickens' TV interviews on Bloomberg, outlining his views on this topic.
Again we have the six May 2011 articles from our exclusive MCO authors, which you can see by scrolling down. The Spotlight this week is Joe Sass' article about the reality of GNSS accuracy. The Video of the Week is from Wirtgen about their slipform paver. All of the abundant content on the site is provided to help make you more successful with machine control, whether you're already using it or are considering it.
We continue to hear from our readers about new projects and bidding opportunities. If you are considering positioning and 3D machine control technology, welcome. MachineControlOnline.com is committed to serve as your knowledge base.
As always, I hope you enjoy this newsletter! Please stay tuned, visiting us often as we update the website daily. Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is any subject about which you would like to see more information. I read each and every email!
Best regards,
Randy Noland

Paul F. Hahn The Real World Impact of Machine Control-Part III by Paul F. Hahn: – Many phone calls and interviews later; a pattern is emerging. Although the sample is still very small; I am hearing the same message from those I have spoken to. Contractors who have adopted machine control see it as a competitive advantage. Perhaps, somewhere in their organizations someone is ...
Marco Cecala GPS Use for Roadway Subgrade by Marco Cecala: – When spring rolls around, road construction gets into full swing. Road contractors were early adopters of technology and continue to drive the development of new applications and equipment. Among them are laser augmentation for vertical accuracy and the automation of paving and curb machines. In an effort to improve …
=Chad Cooper Building a Simple Site - First Play, Same Play by Chad Cooper: – My football coach had quite the challenge. We were a somewhat smaller school when compared to much bigger, and much better funded schools that we would play throughout the year. We were tough, don't get me wrong - but its intimidating when you have 20 players on the sideline and they have 75. Now ...
=Nigel Adams Working Together by Nigel Adams: – It is quite noticeable during my travels around the UK that machine control usage is on the increase. It is nowhere near the levels of adoption that we would like to see, but if you look carefully at construction sites (mostly road construction) you can see the tell tale signs of laser and GPS masts fitted to dozers and the occasional excavator ...
Ron Ciccarone Modeling A Parking Lot - Part 4 by Ron Ciccarone, LS: – We are now at the 4th installment of parking lot modeling. It has been a month since the last article and I have trouble remembering what I did yesterday. Quick recap from Part 3, we discussed the issue of what type of curb to be modeled, straight faced, curb with gutter, and you also have catch or spill gutters ...
