Welcome to the end-of-May 2010 edition of our eNewsletter.
I am currently on a business trip to Europe for two weeks and I will have the good fortune of visiting several large job sites. Two applications of particular interest to positioning and machine control are drilling and dredging. Both involve earthmoving or preparing to move the earth and machine control offers significant accuracy and efficiency benefits.
I have written about 3D drilling before, providing a general overview, and I hope to produce an application video for the next issue of the newsletter. In addition, I am working on an article about dredging and how this industry has been embracing positioning and machine control technology for some time.
There is good news regarding BAUMA, despite the Icelandic volcano ash cloud incident. Please see my blog for more information and a link to the official Bauma Closing Report.
We continue to hear from our readers about new projects and bidding opportunities. If you are considering positioning and 3D machine control technology, welcome! is committed to serve as your knowledge base.
I hope you enjoy this newsletter! Please stay tuned, visiting us often as we update the website daily. As always, please drop me a line if there is any subject about which you would like to see more information. I personally read every email!
Best regards,
Randy Noland

Ron CiccaroneThe Basics of a TIN by Ron Ciccarone, LS: – For this article, I am exploring the very basic essentials of a Triangulated Irregular Network (TIN). The basic elements of a TIN are relatively simple. It can be boiled to two objects, a 3D point and a breakline. I realize some systems are including other objects to define TINs such as contours, but when the smoke clears it used ...
