Welcome to the end of August 2011 edition of our eNewsletter.
LightSquared continues to concern many while exciting others and for good reason. The campaign claims from both sides are at extremes thus very polarizing. I have tried my best to communicate facts and findings as I am exposed to them. My gut reaction was that this is very bad. My livelihood depends on the fast growing positioning and machine control business for which proper GNSS performance is a critical component. But at the same time I try to keep an open mind realizing there can be three sides to most stories. I will continue to do my due diligence in presenting as much information as it becomes available. Please see my latest blog for another perspective.
However, the time for public comment is now over and the LightSquared/High Precision GNSS issue lies solely with the FCC. On pins and needles we await the results of the FCC's deliberation.
Looking inward at our own businesses, focusing on lean operation, cutting unproductive projects and processes, adjusting expense outlay and investments to reflect a percentage of available revenue, and stopping long enough to study new technology are all steps in the right direction. Tightening belts and taking a hard look at how things can improve are prudent in both good times and bad. We have to start this process somewhere/sometime and taking action in our own businesses eases the feelings of helplessness, putting us in control.
Vol1No2 In this newsletter we revisit the seven August 2011 columns, providing you with the information your business needs to explore the benefits of positioning and machine control or to advance your current investment. If you haven't seen our second issue of Machine Control Magazine, please click on the cover for 9 columns and a wealth of product resources >>>
Please don't hesitate to contact me if there is any subject about which you would like to see more information.

Along with speed increases, 3D-MC2 means fewer passes resulting in much more work done in less time.

Houston Light Rail Benefits from 3D Machine Control
On a project to expand downtown Houston's light rail system, the versatility and value of GPS-based machine control becomes more evident with each passing day. Generally considered a boon to projects with vast open spaces and massive amounts of earthmoving, machine control is instead making a difference in a setting which features intermittent, opposite roadside starts and stops-with some work areas no more than ...
