MachineControlOnline.com Exclusive Column by Nigel Adams
My previous articles have focused upon the technical educational content and have therefore been rather verbose and possibly heavy going (albeit highly informative!). So this month I’m giving us all a break and taking it a bit easier by describing some of the applications for machine guidance that we at Prolec have encountered over the years. These range from the fairly standard and obvious to the more specialists. They have been 2D and / or 3D and are all using the sensors that I have previously covered and in some cases requiring tailored software to meet the customers exacting requirements.
Standard Land Applications
A typical 3D application used for road construction. The twin GPS antenna can be seen on the rear of the machine counterweight and if you look carefully the articulation sensors are also visible. Note that this machine has a triple articulation configuration requiring the installation of three main articulation angle sensors (not forgetting the bucket and chassis sensors required as standard).
