Farmer field day studies GPS technology

The Wiregrass Research Extension Center held a "field day" today to help teach the importance of precision farming.

Precision farming is the use of GPS technology to plant and harvest crops.

Extension agents demonstrated how to dig peanuts using r-t-k systems.

Agents say using the technology saves farming mistakes and improves crop yield.

“You can save a lot of peanuts by staying over the row and not having the yield loss since you're not out there trying to find the row while you're shearing off peanuts, plowing the off. so, it's been very beneficial,” says Kris Balkcom, Peanut Agronomist
