This year has been a fast start right out of the gate as we arrive at ConExpo 2014. Has it really been 3 years since the last one? ConExpo is the premiere American construction and agricultural show, drawing more than 125,000 attendees from around the globe. Manufacturers look forward to and prepare for ConExpo like athletes look forward to the Olympics.

In a shared spirit of the Sochi Winter Olympics, the symbolism of the Olympic rings represents the continents of the world, putting aside their differences and coming together in the name of competition. It is a celebration of achievement and excellence. ConExpo does just that with more than 2,400 exhibitors converging to put their technological prowess on display.

As is evident at ConExpo, technology progresses at an astounding pace. The authors and team at and Machine Control Magazine are always thinking of creative ways to ensure we bring you the latest news, applications stories and even occasional predictions of technology direction. In the coming months, we will be evolving into a new brand media property with a multi-area focus. Yes, machine positioning will remain at our core but we want to incorporate more upstream and downstream technologies such as data prep, site connectivity, productivity analysis, etc., and offer a more holistic solutions focus. This will also encompass BIM and other emerging technologies such as unmanned aerial systems. It is all very exciting!

We will be expanding our team of writers to include Mike Michelsen, the author of our cover-story on Data Flow. Mike compliments the tradition of veteran writers at Machine Control Magazine. We met Mike while he was with Trimble Navigation in their PR department back in the 1990s. Mike has extensive experience as a public relations practitioner and professional writer. Mike has written and published hundreds of articles on a broad range of subjects, including business, public relations and technology for publications such as Business Week, Fortune, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, the Saturday Evening Post and now Machine Control Magazine. On behalf of myself and our team please join us in welcoming Mike.

For more than 5 years, and with more than 300 articles, and Machine Control Magazine has been building the largest knowledge base of its kind. Mike will assist in managing the team which will grow considerably as we cover additional topics and areas of interest related to the future site.

Enjoy your new ConExpo issue of Machine Control Magazine. Let the games begin.
